Six of the ten finalists billed to appear in the final of the Panograma competition scheduled for May 3, will fly the flag of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T).
They are: Earl Brooks Jr; Keishaun Julien; Kersh Ramsey, Dejean Cain, Kern Sumerville and Tyeesha Alexander.
The four remaining contestants will carry the national colours of three Caribbean countries. They are: Mark Forde and Hashim Durant, Barbados; Isidore ‘Dow’ York from St Maarten; and Amami Gomes– Antigua and Barbuda.
Those making the final cut won favour with the adjudication panel during the semi-final round held on April 30.
Conceptualised and produced by steelpan exponent Nevin Roach, Panograma is a virtual competition, broadcast live on the social media platform Instagram.
Showtime is 7 pm. Culture lovers will need to visit Roach’s Instagram page – @iNEV88 – to witness the big ten in action.
Roach is reported to have come up with the idea to assist pannists in wake of lockdowns and the associated cancellation of events caused by the global health emergency Covid-19.
The Panograma victor will take home US$500; second place US$200; while third place earns US$100.
Pan Trinbago has signed on as a sponsor of the event and will award appearance fee valued at US $100.
Music rivalry began with two preliminary rounds held on April 24 and 25. Twenty contestants displayed their musical wares, before the panel. In turn, the experts sent forward 15 to the semi-final who they believed presented their credentials best.
Guests performances on final night are expected to include St Vincent’s reiging Ragga Soca Monarch Hance John; dancer exponent Nandi; and young pannist, Jadon Phillip from Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra.
Media reports quoted Roach as being satisfied with the musical output of the contestants.
He is reported to have told T&T Newsday “All pannists brought their A-game and I was very happy that I was not tasked with judging the performances. The viewers created a vibrant and exciting atmosphere with their friends in the comments, thoroughly enjoying all Panograma had to offer.”
